How We Calculate This
Formula
- Line width = Nozzle diameter x Line Width Factor
- Wall thickness = Line width x Number of perimeters
Cura and PrusaSlicer default the wall line width to 100% of the nozzle diameter (factor 1.0), so a 0.4mm nozzle gives 0.4mm lines and 3 perimeters give a 1.2mm wall. The optimal extrusion-width band is 100-120% of nozzle (factor 1.0-1.2); the calculator defaults to 1.05 (a common 5% widening that improves line bonding) but you can set the factor in Advanced Options to match your own slicer profile.

Line width is typically 100-120% of nozzle diameter. A 0.4mm nozzle usually prints lines of 0.4-0.48mm width. Slightly wider lines improve layer adhesion.
Yes. If walls are not exact multiples of line width, the slicer must fill small gaps with thin extrusion or leave voids, both reducing quality and strength.
