Build Volume Calculator — Fit Check
Calculate usable build volume and check if your model fits the print area.
How We Calculate This
Formula
- Usable build dimensions = X − 2 × edge margin, Y − 2 × edge margin, Z − Z clearance
- Build volume (litres) = usable X × usable Y × usable Z (mm) ÷ 1,000,000 (1 litre = 1,000,000 mm³ = 1,000 cm³)
- Fits check = part dimension ≤ usable build dimension (each axis)
- Max scale = min(usable build / part) for each axis × 100%
- Volume utilisation = part bounding box ÷ usable build volume × 100
Raw X × Y × Z in millimetres gives cubic millimetres, so the calculator divides by 1,000,000 to report litres. Edge margin and Z clearance are subtracted first, so every figure here — the build volume, the fit check, the max scale and the utilisation percentage — is measured against the usable (post-margin) build envelope, not the raw mechanical maximum.
The calculator checks each axis independently. The maximum scale factor is limited by whichever axis would hit the build limit first.
