Batch Printing Calculator — Time & Cost Savings
Calculate time and cost savings from printing multiple parts in one batch.
How We Calculate This
Formula
- Batches needed = Parts needed / Parts per batch (rounded up)
- Total print time (batched) = Parts needed x Single part time x Travel overhead (~1.15)
- Total batch time = Total print time + Batches x Setup time
- Total individual time = Parts needed x (Single part time + Setup time)
- Time saved = Total individual time − Total batch time
One nozzle has to lay down every part’s plastic, so the print itself scales with the total part count — a 4-up tray prints in roughly 4 single-part times, not one. Simultaneous printing adds about 5–15% travel time hopping between parts each layer. The genuine saving comes from running setup (heating, levelling, plate swap) once per batch instead of once per part: that consolidated setup is (Parts − Batches) × Setup time. When setup time is small relative to the travel overhead, the calculator may report a negative saving — meaning batching is slightly slower in pure print time but still wins on hands-on time and reliability.
