PLA has a density of approximately 1.24 g/cm³. This can vary slightly (1.20-1.27) depending on the exact blend, additives and colorants used.
Density determines the weight of your prints and the length of filament per spool. It affects flow rate calculations and cost estimates. More dense materials give shorter filament length per kilogram.
Cut a known length of filament, weigh it precisely, then calculate: density = weight / (cross-sectional area x length). Use digital callipers for diameter and a kitchen scale accurate to 0.1g.
Slightly. White filament with titanium dioxide pigment can be 2-5% denser than natural/clear. Carbon fibre or metal-filled filaments are significantly denser.
