Layer Height Calculator — Optimal Layers for Your Nozzle

Find optimal layer heights based on your nozzle size for quality, speed and draft prints.

How We Calculate This

Guidelines

  • Minimum = Nozzle diameter x 0.10 (hard lower limit)
  • Fine / Detail = Nozzle diameter x 0.25
  • Standard / Optimal = Nozzle diameter x 0.50
  • Draft / Fast = Nozzle diameter x 0.60
  • Maximum = Nozzle diameter x 0.75

These ratios ensure the nozzle can properly flatten each layer for good adhesion while maintaining print quality.

The quality factor scales the optimal layer height — values below 1.0 push towards finer detail, above 1.0 towards faster printing. The structural strength weight blends from fine towards maximum height, preferring thicker layers for stronger parts.
