Resin Volume Formulas
- Effective volume = Model volume x Hollow fraction (if hollowed)
- Solid volume = Effective volume x Copies
- Support volume = Solid volume x Support percentage
- Total volume = (Solid volume + Support volume) x (1 + Waste fraction)
- 1 cm³ = 1 ml of resin
Hollowing reduces the effective volume significantly. A 2mm shell on a 30mm cube uses roughly 35% of the solid volume (9,424 of 27,000 mm³). The support percentage depends on model geometry — overhangs and islands need more support. A small waste buffer is then added on top for resin lost to rafts, over-cure, cling and tank residue.

Volume estimates are typically accurate to within 10-15%. The main variables are support density (which varies by model geometry) and hollowing effectiveness. Your slicer gives the most accurate estimate after slicing.
Hollow prints larger than 30mm in any dimension to save resin and reduce cure times. Use 1.5-3mm wall thickness. Always add drain holes (2-3mm diameter) at the lowest point to allow uncured resin to drain out.
Supports typically add 10-30% extra resin. Light supports use less but may fail; heavy supports waste more resin but are more reliable. Tree-style supports generally use less resin than full-contact supports.
A 1kg bottle of standard resin is approximately 900-1000ml (density varies). A typical miniature (28mm scale) uses 5-10ml, so you can get 90-200 miniatures per bottle. Larger prints use proportionally more.
